Biography
Safia Khan Mujtaba is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner working at our suburban Chicago, IL location. She recently completed her Doctorate in Nursing Practice with a focus on Psychiatry-Mental Health from the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she also earned a double major in Nursing and Psychology. With a commitment to providing patient-centered care, Safia specializes in treating individuals across the lifespan, particularly those with complex psychiatric conditions. She is passionate about utilizing a holistic approach to mental health, integrating therapeutic techniques and evidence-based practices to support her patients' well-being.
Safia has a strong foundation in psychiatric nursing, having worked as a Registered Nurse at NorthShore Evanston Hospital since 2018. In her role within outpatient psychiatry, she delivers Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) treatments and manages long-acting injectable medications for patients with severe psychiatric diagnoses. She also collaborates closely with psychiatrists to assess and manage patients’ psychiatric care, including handling medication refills, addressing adverse effects, and navigating insurance concerns. Safia's previous experience in medical-surgical and intensive care settings further enhances her ability to provide comprehensive care for patients with complex physical and mental health needs.
In addition to her clinical work, Safia has been actively involved in research, focusing on projects aimed at improving mental health and caregiver support. She presented her Doctorate Nursing Practice project on mindfulness-based stress reduction techniques to alleviate caregiver burnout and has contributed to several studies exploring the intersections of mental health and chronic illness. A recipient of the Merit Award from Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nursing, Safia is also a Graduate Research Fellow for the Minority Fellowship Program, sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Fluent in English, Urdu, and Hindi, with conversational skills in Spanish, Safia is committed to delivering culturally competent and compassionate care to all of her patients.
