Biography
Dr. Rachel Ramaswamy works as a psychiatrist at our Chicago, IL Downtown location, specializing in reproductive psychiatry. Originally from Grayling, Michigan, Dr. Ramaswamy’s career in psychiatry is shaped by a broad range of experiences, including service with AmeriCorps and work at an abortion clinic in Philadelphia. She completed her education at the University of Michigan, Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Loyola University School of Medicine, before enrolling in the Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Program at the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute.
With nearly six years of outpatient experience, Dr. Ramaswamy has developed expertise in treating pregnant and postpartum patients, particularly those with hormonal issues. She has worked as the Medical Director of Psychiatry at Erie Family Health Center, where she focused on perinatal and Spanish-speaking populations, developed a behavioral health perinatal program, and provided supervision to psychiatrists and nurse practitioners. Dr. Ramaswamy’s contributions to the field have been recognized by her inclusion as a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association in 2024 and her board certification by the American Association of Community Psychiatry in 2022.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Ramaswamy actively participates in professional organizations like the American Psychiatric Association and Illinois Psychiatric Society. She is also a passionate educator, teaching family medicine residents and other providers about topics ranging from psychotropics in pregnancy to developmental trauma. Outside of her work, she enjoys an active lifestyle, including biking, running, attending barre classes, and engaging in cultural activities such as theater and museum visits.
