Biography
Dr. Maja Popovic's life journey is one of resilience and determination. As the Executive Director at Pathlight Mood & Anxiety Center in Fort Worth, Texas, she brings her experience and expertise to help those in need.
Dr. Popovic was born in Bosnia and Herzegovina but had to relocate to Serbia due to the civil war. She left her country of origin as a refugee to go to Serbia, where she graduated high school and became a nurse.
In 2002, Dr. Popovic migrated to the United States with a strong desire to pursue her dreams. Shortly after learning enough English, she enrolled in Tarrant County Community College, then continued her studies at Texas Woman's University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. During her studies, she worked with persons who suffered from severe and persistent mental illness and chronic offenders, which led her to pursue a Master of Arts in Counseling from Texas Wesleyan University. She went on to earn her PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy at Texas Wesleyan. She is now a licensed professional counselor-supervisor in the state of Texas.
Apart from her work as a Clinical Director, Dr. Popovic loves to teach and share her knowledge. She is currently serving as an Adjunct Professor at Texas Wesleyan University, where she teaches multicultural studies, group therapy, and advanced counseling techniques.
