DENVER, Sept. 20, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Eating Recovery Center (ERC) announces its 10th annual Eating Recovery Foundation Conference (ERFC), taking place in Denver, CO from October 5-6, 2018. This two-day educational event brings together thought leaders and medical experts in the field of eating disorder treatment from ERC, around the country and internationally. It will include plenary sessions led by expert treatment providers, niche-topic breakout sessions, and the opportunity for in-depth education, discussion and collaboration with thought leaders in eating disorder care.

The Eating Recovery Foundation (ERF) is a catalyst to change how eating disorders are viewed, treated and prevented. As the nonprofit arm of ERC, the foundation provides education and prevention programs, supports research and provides resources for those afflicted with, or at risk for eating disorders, as well as their families, caregivers and treating professionals.

ERC recognizes the need for clinically-sound training for professionals working in the field of eating disorder treatment, which continues to evolve. The conference offers continuing education activities with a focus on comprehensive, integrated eating disorder treatment that will incorporate assessment, innovative evidence-based interventions and comprehensive planning.

Guest speakers will include world-renowned medical experts, national recovery advocates, and notable public figures, including Cheryl Strayed, author of the New York Times bestseller Wild. Former pro-athletes Mike Marjama and Patrick Devenny will also discuss their stories of recovering from an eating disorder.

ERFC also celebrates the 10th anniversary of the opening of ERC. Based in Denver, CO, ERC now has an extensive network of locations throughout 12 markets, including Austin, TX; Bellevue, WA; Chicago, IL; Cincinnati, OH; Dallas, TX; Greenville, SC; Houston, TX; Round Rock, TX; Sacramento, CA; San Antonio, TX; Seattle, WA, and The Woodlands, TX.

ERC offers the full spectrum of eating disorder treatment services for children, adolescents, and adults, including Inpatient, Residential, Partial Hospitalization and Outpatient programs regardless of age, gender, or level of care. It provides treatment for a wide range of eating disorder conditions, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder (BED), avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID), diabulimia, and more.

Over the last 10 years, ERC has been at the forefront of eating disorder treatment and care. In 2013, the organization launched its successful Binge Eating Treatment and Recovery Program (BETR) at the same time BED was officially recognized as a diagnosis by the American Psychiatric Association. Today, BED is considered to be the most common eating disorder in the United States.

ERC also offers treatment for those with the most severe, life-threatening cases through its partner, The ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders. Located at Denver Health, ACUTE helps those patients who are most critically ill from an eating disorder. The medical stabilization program, with a dedicated full-floor, 30-bed medical unit, is the first and only medical inpatient eating disorder treatment program in the country treating adults with the most severe cases of the disease.

Since its inception, ERC has also expanded its services to help those with co-occurring mental health disorders. Through its subsidiary, Insight Behavioral Health Services, ERC provides mood, anxiety and trauma-related treatment programming. As 56% of eating disorder patients suffer from an underlying mental health disorder, ERC's synergy of service line offerings for eating disorder and co-morbid mental health disorders broadens and intensifies the quality of care its patients receive.

ERC's vast national network of 1,300 employees provides care to more than 5,000 patients a year. Its unique medical, psychiatric and psychological treatment is delivered by a multidisciplinary care team committed to providing the highest level of care for lasting recovery. This care goes beyond patients and extends to family members. Understanding that families and friends are also impacted by an individual's eating disorder, ERC offers extensive support services and programming to help educate, support, and care for loved ones of eating disordered patients.
